Subject: Important Announcement: Upcoming Changes to the Counselling Skills Program

Dear Counselling Students,

We are pleased to announce that we have formally applied to the Canadian Professional Counsellors Association (CPCA) to become an approved educational institution. They have recently responded and have stated they would approve our application once it is approved by PTIB. Concurrently, we have notified the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) about a significant restructuring of our Counselling Skills program. It will take about 4 months to process.

Program Changes:

The program will be expanded to include four additional courses and an extra 100 hours of Supervision.

The duration will extend from the current 770 hours over 8 months to 1200 hours over 12 months.

Impact on Current Students:

These changes will not affect any students currently enrolled in the program; your curriculum, schedule and Diploma will remain the same.

However, following the new format, you will have the option to enroll in additional courses that you have not previously completed.

Reasons for Changes:

  • To meet the CPCA's requirements for school approval.
  • To comply with the Crime Victim Assistance Program's (CVAP) new criteria.
  • To further enhance our credibility within the counselling community.
  • To increase the potential for private insurance plan coverage.

Please Note: We are unable to disclose further details or make these changes public until approximately August 15, 2024, pending PTIB approval. However, approval may be granted sooner.

Thank you for your attention, and we are excited about the enhancements these changes will bring to our program and your professional development.
